Corrective Exercise

Move Better. Build Strength. Train With Purpose.

Corrective exercise looks beyond simply completing an exercise and considers how your body moves.

At Fit Monkeys, we look at factors such as mobility, stability, balance, strength, and movement patterns to help guide exercise selection and programming.

The goal is to better understand how you move and use that information to build more individualized training.

What It Is

What Is Corrective Exercise?

Corrective exercise uses movement assessment and targeted exercise to address areas that may benefit from improved mobility, stability, strength, balance, or control.

  • Mobility & flexibility
  • Stability & control
  • Strength & resistance training
  • Balance & coordination
  • Core stabilization
  • Movement pattern development

Rather than treating corrective exercise as a separate type of workout, we often incorporate these principles directly into your personal training or Pilates program.

The Bigger Picture

Looking at How the Body Works Together

The body works as an interconnected system. How one area moves can influence movement elsewhere.

That's why we look beyond an individual exercise or muscle and consider the larger movement pattern. What we observe helps us decide which exercises to use, how to modify them, and how to progress your training over time.

Strength Matters

Corrective Exercise + Strength Training

Corrective exercise isn't just about stretching or mobility. Building strength is often an important part of improving how the body moves and functions.

Your program may combine mobility and stability work with free weights, cables, resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, Pilates, balance work, and other forms of resistance training.

Our goal is to help you develop greater strength, mobility, stability, control, and confidence in movement.

Our Approach

An Integrated Approach

Our backgrounds in Pilates and personal training influence how we approach corrective exercise.

We bring together principles of alignment, body awareness, breathing, control, mobility, stability, and strength rather than viewing them as completely separate areas of training.

This gives us more tools—and more ways to adapt exercise—to the individual we're working with.

Individualized Training

Who Is Corrective Exercise For?

Corrective exercise principles can benefit a wide range of clients—not only people who have been injured.

  • Older adults
  • Recreational and competitive athletes
  • People returning to exercise after inactivity
  • Clients working on mobility or balance
  • People transitioning from physical therapy
  • Individuals cleared for exercise after previous injuries or surgeries
  • Anyone wanting greater strength, control, and body awareness

Returning to Exercise

Transitioning From Physical Therapy?

Once you've been cleared for exercise, we can help you transition from rehabilitation into a broader fitness program.

We can work within recommendations or restrictions provided by your physical therapist or healthcare professional while progressively building strength, mobility, balance, and overall fitness.

Corrective exercise is not physical therapy. We do not diagnose or treat injuries or medical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Corrective Exercise FAQs

Is corrective exercise the same as physical therapy?

No. Corrective exercise is fitness-based and does not diagnose or treat injuries or medical conditions. We use movement observations and exercise programming to help improve areas such as mobility, stability, balance, strength, and movement control.

Physical therapy is provided by licensed healthcare professionals who evaluate, diagnose, and treat injuries and medical conditions.

Do I need to have an injury to benefit from corrective exercise?

No. Corrective exercise isn't only for people who have been injured. Its principles can be useful for anyone looking to improve mobility, stability, balance, body awareness, movement quality, or overall strength and control.

Will my entire workout consist of corrective exercises?

Usually not. At Fit Monkeys, corrective exercise is integrated into your overall program based on what you need.

Your sessions may combine corrective exercise with strength and resistance training, Pilates, mobility, balance, cardiovascular exercise, and other forms of movement. As you progress, your program continues to evolve with you.

Can I work with you after completing physical therapy?

Yes. Once you've been cleared to return to exercise, we can help you transition into a broader fitness program.

If your physical therapist or healthcare provider has given you specific recommendations, limitations, or restrictions, we can incorporate those into your training.

Our role is to help you continue developing strength, mobility, balance, and overall fitness—not to replace physical therapy or medical care.
