Senior Fitness

Build Strength. Move With Confidence. Stay Independent.

Staying active becomes increasingly important as we age.

At Fit Monkeys, senior fitness is about helping older adults maintain and build the strength, balance, mobility, and physical capacity needed for everyday life.

Your program is built around your current abilities, experience, goals, and physical considerations—not your age alone.

Strength Matters

Why Strength Training Matters as We Age

Aging is naturally associated with a gradual loss of muscle mass and strength.

Regular resistance training can help preserve and build muscle, support everyday function, and make activities such as climbing stairs, carrying groceries, getting up from a chair, traveling, and participating in hobbies easier.

Strength training also plays an important role in supporting bone health by providing the mechanical stimulus bones need to maintain strength over time.

For older adults, building and maintaining strength is about more than exercise performance—it can support continued independence and an active lifestyle.

More Than Strength

A Well-Rounded Approach to Senior Fitness

Strength is important, but it is only one part of healthy movement.

Depending on the individual, senior fitness sessions may also include:

  • Balance training
  • Mobility & flexibility
  • Stability & control
  • Coordination
  • Functional movement
  • Core strength
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Pilates
  • Resistance & strength training

We combine these areas based on what will be most useful for the person we are working with.

Everyday Strength

Training for Everyday Life

Our goal is to help you maintain and develop the physical abilities that support the life you want to live.

That may mean improving your ability to:

  • Walk comfortably and confidently
  • Climb stairs
  • Get up and down from the floor
  • Carry groceries or luggage
  • Maintain balance
  • Keep up with grandchildren
  • Continue hiking, traveling, golfing, pickleball, or other activities
  • Stay active and independent

Fitness goals do not have to be extreme to be meaningful.

Individualized Training

Senior Fitness Built Around You

There is no single workout that every older adult should follow.

Some clients come to us after exercising for decades. Others are beginning strength training later in life. Some are returning to exercise after a joint replacement, physical therapy, illness, or period of inactivity.

We adjust exercise selection, resistance, range of motion, pace, and progression based on the individual.

Your training can evolve as your strength, confidence, and abilities improve.

Balance & Mobility

Build Confidence in How You Move

Balance can become an increasingly important part of fitness as we age.

We may incorporate exercises that challenge balance, stability, coordination, lower-body strength, and movement control in ways that are appropriate for the individual.

The goal is to help clients become stronger and more confident in the movements they use in everyday life.

Returning to Exercise

After Physical Therapy or Joint Replacement

Many older adults want to continue building strength after completing physical therapy.

Once you have been cleared for exercise, we can help you transition into a broader fitness program while working within any recommendations or restrictions provided by your physical therapist or healthcare professional.

We also have experience working with clients who have had joint replacements, previous surgeries, and other physical considerations.

Personal training is not a substitute for medical care or physical therapy, and we stay within our role as fitness professionals.

Client Testimonials

Real experiences from our personal training and Pilates clients.

Toby K. Age 77 · Senior Fitness ★★★★★
When my mom started with Kelly at 77, she was depressed, in a lot of pain, and unable to get around without a walker. Her back was curved from osteoporosis and lack of muscles, she couldn't go to the grocery store or manage housekeeping, and surgery wasn't an option because her bones were too weak. She had never exercised before, but she began seeing Kelly twice a week and they began slowly. Now at 80, she no longer needs a walker, can get out of the car without assistance, stand much straighter, and go grocery shopping again... Kelly gave me back my mom.
Bruce E. 70s · Personal Training & Pilates ★★★★★
I'm new to pilates but needed mobility and fitness. This has been an effective program and have gained flexibility as well as feeling much stronger. They made a comprehensive plan that took into account my age and experience making it very effective for me.
Linda B. 70s · Personal Training & Pilates ★★★★★
I love being a client at Fit Monkeys Personal Training Gym, operated by the Mother/Daughter dynamic duo team of Denise and Kelly. I have trained with Denise 2x weekly for over 2 years. Led by her extensive knowledge of anatomy she has customized a safe, long term success and goals based program for me. Denise changes up exercises every session which is important to me and I have failed to get bored. She has coached me through a couple of injuries utilizing pilates, weight training, yoga and other modalities using equipment creatively. The gym itself is sparkling clean and very well equipped. I highly recommend Fit Monkeys to anyone who is looking for fitness trainers that put their hearts and skill into customers health and fitness goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Senior Fitness FAQs

Am I too old to start strength training?

For many older adults, age alone is not a reason to avoid strength training. Exercise can be modified based on your current fitness level, experience, health considerations, and guidance from your healthcare provider.

If you are new to exercise, we can start gradually and progress at an appropriate pace.

Do I need previous exercise experience?

No. We work with older adults who have exercised for years as well as people beginning structured exercise later in life.

One-on-one training allows us to explain exercises, modify movements, and progress your program at a pace that makes sense for you.

Can I train if I've had a joint replacement?

Many people return to exercise after joint replacement once they have completed rehabilitation and received appropriate medical clearance.

We can work within recommendations or restrictions from your healthcare team and modify exercises around your individual needs.

Is senior fitness only for people with limitations?

Not at all. Many of our senior clients are active adults who want to stay strong, improve performance, maintain mobility, support bone and muscle health, and continue doing the activities they enjoy for years to come.
